Question about Enterprise portal

I don't know if this is the right place..to ask this

what technology is used in it the Enterprise Portal Client Framework? Is it a pluggin - written in java or what..?

I have a Portal and I want to do some automated testing, Im getting access to fields using the DOM in IE, and when i get down in the HTML, i hit this var windowID = EPCM.getUniqueWindowId();

how to i access fields inside this form - using the IE dom model? or is there some way to automated scripting in this ..?

I know the SAP GUI does have automated scripting does the SAP portal???
